Each and every one of them!
What methods do we use?
We carry out all training with a positive reinforcement/force-free method. This is the best training method as the dog is in a happy state rather when training rather than being uncomfortable in certain situations.
How to book?
First things first, we’d love to get to know more about you and your dog before booking in any training sessions. We offer a FREE 15 minute consultation where we’ll chat more about the services we provide, and what it is you’re looking for.

How do the sessions work?
We book a FREE consultation to begin with to discuss the challenges you are facing with your pup/dog then from there we can provide you with the best solution going forward – whether that be 1-2-1 sessions, online coaching, or a mix of the two.
How much are each session?
There are a number of different training package options available, please book your FREE consultation with us to discuss this further.
What types of training do you offer?
We offer 1-2-1 in person sessions, whether that be at your home, a local field or somewhere else of your choice, as well as online coaching sessions via Zoom.
Do we do home visits?
We do indeed – we cover all addresses within a 10 mile radius. However, we do travel further for an extra cost. Alternatively, we train locally to NE5 if you’re wanting to travel here too.
What areas do you cover?
Anything within a 10 mile radius to NE5 (although can go further – at an increased price, please ask for more info) – so Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, North Tyneside.
Do I take the dog?
Dog training is just as much about the owners and the dog, so I include both the owner and the dog in each training session – showing what you can do to help handle your dog and their behaviours. After all, we train the owners as well as the dogs.
What’s the success rate?
As positive as you want to make it – dog training is hard work, for both the dog and the owner. We do ask that by signing up for sessions that you will follow the homework between each session, and compile with the advice given – consistency is key to getting results!
Can you help an aggressive dog?
Yes, we use management techniques first to prevent the dog from getting themself into trouble then from there we can begin the training process to change the dog’s thinking. As long as the owners are consistent each day then we can definitely change the dog’s thinking.

Is puppy training something that you offer?
Of course! We know how tricky those first few weeks/months with a new puppy can be, especially if you’re a first time dog owner. But we’re here to help! From crate or toilet training to lead walking and socialisation, we are able to cover it all with you to help your dog get off to the best start.
Are you able to train service/therapy dogs?
We can set the puppy up to set a solid foundation however, we would recommend you to a specialist.
How long does it take to get results?
We can see results in just 1 session as we make it easy enough for the dog to understand. Once they are comfortable we continue to increase the criteria.
Can family or children attend sessions?
Yes, it’s important that each family member is on the same page in order for the dog to get consistency. However, we do ask that children stand on the side and watch to prevent the dog from getting distracted.
What type of treats should I use whilst training?
High value treats are recommended as this really motivates the dog in wanting to work. Cocktail sausages or cooked chicken are a great starting point.
Are the fees refundable?
Yes, if cancellations are made at least 48 hours prior to any booked session. Please see our T&Cs for more details.

We have really enjoyed the training with Milan. He has helped us so much with our reactive dog Bella. At first we couldn’t even walk past a person or dog without the training from Milan yet now she has made friends with other dogs and is non-reactive to people, this has been amazing for us to be able to take her on a walk with ease whereas before it was a challenge. We can’t thank Milan enough for everything he has helped us with. We still have a long way to go but very pleased with the overall training and improvement so far.

We are so very happy that we found Milan and Smart Dogs Training. We had tried two trainers before finding Milan, neither of whom were able to help us with our rescue Malinois Cody, and one of whom actually made him worse, but from the minute we met Milan we felt confident he could help us. Cody had spent the first year of his life locked in a yard and had been neglected and not socialised with other dogs, he also had not experienced almost all aspects of ordinary everyday urban life. Our main final aim is to be able to walk Cody off lead amongst other dogs and to know he will recall perfectly and not be a risk to them. Milan has taught us techniques to get and to keep Cody's attention from leaving the house onwards, something we could not manage to do before. Cody is not quite there yet but he is hugely improved and we are now confident that we can achieve what we had started to think was impossible. Milan is in daily contact with us by WhatsApp and he requests us to send frequent videos of the training which he then gives detailed feedback on. Milan's love and enthusiasm of dog training shines through in his energetic training style which makes it fun and exciting for the dog (and us!). It almost goes without saying that Cody absolutely loves him. Myself and my husband really cannot recommend Milan highly enough. He's a true dog whisperer!

Milan is amazing!We contacted Milan for advice and training around reactivity and leash walking for our Chow Chow, after he has experienced a few negative encounters with other dogs and people approaching him. Our walks filled us with anxiety around his reactivity, pulling on the leash and overall most walks weren’t enjoyable for any of us.Milan’s expertises and knowledge on being able to identify the sticking point/triggers, whilst providing us with strategies and knowledge on how to identify our dogs anxiety towards some people/dogs has been incredible.We can now say we look forward to walks and we will be book further session with Milan to continue the progress we have seen. Milan looked after my weimeraner Apollo for 2 weeks. Apollo is adorable but has certain reactive traits- barking at other dogs, hating skateboarders etc. Milan seems to have trained Apollo to not react to his trigger situations Milan is clearly a natural dog whisperer. We are so grateful for Milan’s 30-day dog training program. The combination of 1-2-1 sessions and daily WhatsApp guidance was fantastic. We loved the personalised 1-2-1 sessions, where Milan’s hands-on approach really helped us understand how to work with our dog Panda. We have used many services smart dogs training has to offer and all of it has been amazing!We have done the 30 day whatsapp training when our puppy could barely leave the house, and it gave him so much confidence and helped him with his fearfulness!Our puppy later developed reactivity so we did another 30 days but this time with in person sessions! The in person training was honestly the most valuable and helpful experience for me to learn and be taught how to help my dog. It was worth its weight in gold to have Milan there to assist in person, and I would recommend this to anyone!We have recently been using their dog walking service with Naomi walking our dog! With getting a new job there was so much stress and worry about what to do with the dog that wouldn’t set back his training, but having Naomi has been amazing, her training walks have helped our reactive dog and given us so much peace of mind! Highly recommend Milan, we can’t believe how much progress Freddie (our pup) has made in such a short time! We have just completed our training with Milan for our cavapoo Stella. We were having issues with barking in the garden and not settling on an evening. Milan gave us very simple easy to follow instructions and guidelines and we could quickly see the changes in her behaviour in many things not just the corrections we were looking for. We were referred to Milan from a friend and we couldn’t recommend him any more ourselves. The difference in our dog in 4 weeks is amazing.We rescued a Rottweiler puppy at 5 months old and she was very anxious when out on walks and reactive to sounds inside the house. Milan worked with us to get her to disengage herself when out on walks be less reactive to outside sounds when in the house.Now we have a dog who is nowhere near as anxious when out on walks and is not far away from being off leash and she is also a lot less reactive to outside noise. Using the commands and training from Milan she continues to get better every day.Milan is great at tailoring information to you so you can process it and relay it back. He was very accommodating and arranged our 1-2-1’s to suit our schedule… already said above but we couldn’t recommend him enough!Thank you

Milan, is very good at understanding the personality and motivations for our dog, Meg, and of our strengths and weaknesses as her owners. This makes his advice tailored and helpful. We could not manage work and personal life plus having a dog as part of our family if it weren’t for Smart Dogs. They have given us peace of mind us knowing that our dog is well behaved, has frequent walks and can be boarded when we’re on holidays. 5 weeks ago, I got a rescue dog and on day 3 he had bitten me! It became apparent he would resource guard everything, even my bed, and that why i had got bitten. I reached out to the rescue centre and seeked some advice. They offered to pay for some behavioural training and put me in touch with Milan, well what can i say Milan has been amazing and explaining things so I was able to understand better why my dog behaved the way he does.Our individual training plan was created and training commenced. Training videos uploaded each day via WhatsApp and milan would respond either explaining if we were doing something incorrect and how to correct it or if we could move on to the next stage.Fast forward 30 days, and I can honestly say hand on heart the training advice and support has been amazing and my dog is 95% better. I understand this training isn't only for the 30 days it has to be for the rest of my dogs life.My dog now gives up items he previously guarded, he now goes to his bed when asked, he looks at me when out on walks and for the first on Friday my recall worked after many many times of asking. I was screaming in the park because I was so happy that it finally worked and people must have thought I was being attacked.So my advice to you is listen to Milan follow his instructions to the letter, don't give up and get used to repeating commands 50,000 times a day.

Our German Shepherd puppy was struggling with walking on a lead and being nervous in general. Milan’s training has helped us to understand why she was behaving that way and exactly how to fix it. I contacted Milan because, after a couple of negative encounters, my dogs behaviour took a nose dive. He started barking and lunging at certain dogs and wouldn’t let men approach me. I was embarrassed and anxious and no longer enjoyed my walks.We’ve been with Milan for around a month. My dog is so much happier, we both enjoy our walks together now and his behaviour has improved dramatically.Milan is a great trainer, he makes the sessions enjoyable for both me and Zeus and something to look forward to every week.

Absolutely amazing! We started our training with Milan when our cocker puppy was 3 months old as we wanted to make sure we were ‘doing training right’ from the start. Milan made it so easy to understand what we needed to do and what was best for our pup and our lifestyle. Can’t recommend Board and Train highly enough. From the initial scene setting call everything has worked really well. Milan listened to the concerns and training needs and developed an approach to suit our dog. During the boarding regular updates were given on progress. Following this we had a very comprehensive handover, explaining what we needed to do to continue the progress and build on the training. Over the next few weeks daily check ins took place with Milan giving feedback and further progressions so as to build trust and confidence. The progress that we have made following this programme is fabulous. Our programme was developed predominantly around being able to walk our German Shepherd without being pulled (sometimes off my feet). I now feel confident in walking her alone, something I never thought I’d be able to do. Truly this has made a huge difference to our family life and can’t thank Milan enough. I’d have no hesitation in recommending this service, and especially Milan. He’s great to work with and makes both owner and dog feel that nothing is impossible.

Bailey (cross german shepherd and bull mastif) loves Milan and he is always pleased to see him. His training before we came across Smart dogs training was limited. He has improved tremendously since starting the training. He is a very large dog and I struggled to walk him due to my physical limitations and after he stayed with Milan for 5 days on board and train, I can now walk him and not be worried about getting pulled over. Bailey seems much happier too. He was taken care of very well. Highly recommend for pets and he is very helpful and supportive to us owners too

I would definitely recommend Milan and Smart dogs training they have helped me so much with my lab and his walking. We still have work to do but with the 30 day training course Milan has helped me understand how I can help Chance respond differently to distractions or pulling. He has also helped me feel confident while I'm walking Chance. Milan give me techniques to help Chance in the house also with him barking at the window when anyone walked past or he heard a noise outside and also his chewing of furniture. I would definitely recommend Milan he helped with our Doberman Bruno’s training from jumping up mealtimes. Recall and focusing on me when on walks. He was barking a lot at anyone who passed but was with excitement and using the technique Milan showed us he is much better and is walking past people and dogs much better and will look and then look away. Just finished the online coaching with my 1 year old Labrador who struggled with lunging and excitement around other dogs, if we didn’t let him say hello to every dog he seen he would lunge and growl at the other dog out of frustration, when doing the program we worked on loose lead walking first before advancing onto how to behave around other dogs and wev worked our way up to walking past dogs, the difference we have seen in blue is amazing, a lot of hard work but it has definitely improved his walking/social skills. Me and my partner booked with Milan for the board and train service. We were nervous at first as we have a 1 year old German Shepherd (Bruno) who is super anxious.Milan worked with him at Bruno’s pace which was massively appreciated, he really put Bruno’s needs first and done what was in Bruno’s best interest. It really showed how much love and care Milan has for dogs.We asked for daily check ins and updates, Milan provided that and more.Milan gave us a lot of reassurance and support throughout the 10 days he spent with Bruno while we were away abroad.After Bruno eventually became more comfortable and confident around Milan he worked on Bruno’s behaviours out of the house and on a walk, one main thing being Bruno’s reactivity towards other dogs and people.Since being back home Bruno has improved so much, it’s just such a joy to take him on a walk and continue his training at home with him.It’s nice to see the impact on how the training has helped Bruno in so many ways.So beneficial and we would definitely do it again.

Milan (Smart Dogs Training) has totally transformed our training ability for our 3 year old German Shepherd, Baloo. We now have a much greater understanding of how to encourage Baloo to behave under various situations whether it be in the house, when we have guests, or in public, in the company of other dogs and people. In such a short time, we’ve seen huge improvements and most importantly Milan has now taught us the skills to continue with Baloo’s on-going training. Milan has an extensive understanding of dog psychology and is able to transfer his knowledge into practical exercises to help you work with your own dog on their behaviour and commands. I'm about a month in with my training and I'm seeing a difference in my young Dobe's behaviour and her reactions to new commands. I would definitely recommend Milan to anyone looking for hands on training. You will see a difference if you're prepared to put the hours in.

Milan was really good . We had him for a month and he helped sort alot of our teething problems when we got our second dog . The first two weeks were really hard and we couldn’t have managed without his help . Every evening we would ask a question and by the morning we would get a detailed reply followed with a video .i would highly recommend him . Started training with Milan and Smart dogs a week before Kuro our black Labrador puppy was able to walk outside.Firstly, Milan was great from meeting Kuro to offering support, I can’t recommend getting in touch and signing on for training enough.Milan was quick to give the essentials for in the house initially to on the short and long lead outside to implement daily in a staggered approach to make sure we could learn and teach Kuro the correct technique.Milan then gave in depth feedback daily on the training we were doing so we could continuously improve and in turn make Kuro pick things up quicker.Almost two months later and the training done has made an enormous difference already and we always get commended when out how good the puppy is and he has had no bad behavioural issues at all.The sooner you start the better!!Again, can’t recommend enoughThanks, Milan.

I found Milan's details online and having read many positive reviews, I decided to reach out to Smart Dogs Training to ask for help with my miniature Dachshund. I am very pleased to say that issues I was never able to aid by myself (noise sensitivity, anxiety, recall, reactivity) have been navigated with plenty patience and knowledge in a hybrid approach of online and in-person sessions. My pooch has come a long way and I'm very grateful for the attentiveness and help I got along the way. Milan has been working with our Labrador puppy Barney, who is completely different compared to our previous Lab in every aspect. We had clearly forgotten how difficult the puppy stage is or we had blanked it out. We discovered Milan through the website while we were in the midst of training our dogs. Even at this stage, we can already see the significant progress our dogs have made. Unlike previous trainers who couldn't identify the root of the issue, Milan has been instrumental in addressing the problem with one of our dogs mostly. He is extremely patient and informative and has told me exactly what I need to do to work on my dog’s leash walking and reactivity. Milan broke everything down step by step and identified everything we need to work on, how to handle situations and why my dog may be doing a certain thing or acting a certain way. The WhatsApp support is very useful, with communication every day and any questions I had would be answered.I feel a lot more confident with my dog as I have a lot more knowledge about what we need to do together. I highly recommend Smart Dogs training!
