Smart Dogs
Way back before I started Smart Dogs Training in Newcastle, when I was just 7 years old, my uncle had a German Shepherd who I will never forget. I fell in love with him the moment I met him. Spending weeks with Diesel, I knew I wanted a dog for myself who I could train.
17 years later, once I completed my degree in Engineering, I bought my first puppy, a Belgian Malinois! Little did I know how challenging it would be. However, I found it highly rewarding as I began to understand how and why dogs behave the way they do.
I faced many challenges with my own dog, which I found frustrating and extremely stressful. After I started to attend numerous classes, online seminars, and read books, I began to understand more of canine behaviour and started to overcome many problems myself, which I found highly satisfying. I knew I’d like to do the same for others.
I began to help pet dog owners in my local park and after seeing the transition from frustrated and upset dog owners to happy and playful ones, I became obsessed with helping other dog owners around, in the form of Smart Dogs Training in Newcastle.
I’m studying further to become a behaviourist to learn more about the behaviour of all canines, from small to large breeds, which provides me with a better understanding of why certain dogs behave the way they do. This knowledge helps me understand their different needs.
Hi, I’m Ella and I’m thrilled to become a part of the Smart Dogs Training team. I have always loved dogs, but I was never able to have one in my family home! This led me to dog-sit and dog-walk from a young age. I have experience working with a diverse range of dogs dealing with various issues, including anxiety and reactivity. I thoroughly enjoy the process of helping them and witnessing their newfound enjoyment for walks, which is highly rewarding. I have also been a volunteer at the Cinnamon Trust for many years, where I walk and look after dogs for those who are no longer able to. For the past few years, I have been completing my Psychology degree, where I took a particular interest in the clinical aspect and addressing those with difficulties. I then became aware of the field of animal behaviour, which sounded perfect as it enables me to combine two passions: working with animals and aiding behavioural problems. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Animal Behaviour at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. I love putting the skills I have learnt into action to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of all dogs during their walks!
