Q: What if my dog refuses to walk or seems fearful outside?
A: Take small steps by practicing indoors or just outside the door. Use treats to encourage them to take small steps forward, gradually increasing their comfort with the outside world.
Q: My dog seems to lose focus after a short time. How can I improve their attention span?
A: Keep training sessions short and engaging. Gradually increase the duration as your dog becomes more comfortable. Incorporate play and breaks to keep them motivated.
Q: Will I receive support if I have questions during the course?

Q: Can I revisit course materials after I complete the course?

Q: What if my dog isn’t food motivated?
A: All dogs need food to survive, so we can use their regular meal times for training. If your dog isn’t interested in treats, try using their regular kibble or a portion of their meal during training sessions.
Q: What if my dog gets overly excited or fearful when the walking equipment comes out?
A: Use counter-conditioning techniques to help your dog become comfortable with the equipment:
1. Sit on the sofa with the lead/harness behind you.
2. Present the equipment for 1 second, mark and reward, then hide it again.
3. Repeat until your dog remains neutral.
Alternatively, teach your dog to go to a designated spot (like their bed) for a reward when you present the equipment.
Q: What if I don’t have a quiet space to train?
A: Start indoors in areas like the hallway, kitchen, or living room. Once your dog masters indoor training, gradually progress to outdoor spaces. If your immediate outdoor area is too busy, consider driving to a quieter location or an empty parking lot.
Q: My dog isn’t following me and keeps pulling in the opposite direction. What can I do?
A: This may occur if the dog is too distracted, you’re forcing them to follow, or the rewards aren’t enticing enough. Start in a low-distraction environment indoors, use high-value reinforcers, and clearly show your dog what reward they’ll receive for following you.
Q: My dog keeps crossing in front of me and not staying by my side. How do I fix this?
A: Implement frequent directional changes to keep your dog engaged. Reward them next to your shoe to encourage them to stay by your side.
Q: My dog isn’t looking at me by themselves. How long will this take?
A: Initially, ask for a look every 10-30 seconds. Once they’re in rhythm, wait for spontaneous looks, mark with “YES!”, and reward. If they’re not looking, they may be distracted by other reinforcing behaviours like sniffing. Prevent this by managing the environment.
Q: My dog is sniffing a lot and won’t look at me. How can I prevent this?
A: Choose an appropriate training environment (avoid grassy areas initially). Use sniffing as a reward after successful looks. Don’t ask for looks during sniffing to avoid reinforcing the wrong behaviour.
Q: My dog is too scared to leave the house. How can I help?
A: Start inside with the door open, rewarding looks and placing treats on the doorstep. Gradually progress to just outside the door. You can also practice leash walking inside the house with the door slightly open.
Q: My dog is good on our street but struggles elsewhere. How can I help?
A: Ensure 100% reliability on your street first. Then gradually increase distance from your street, always returning to the familiar area. Progress slowly and steadily. 1 house away, then 2 houses and so on.
Q: My dog lunges/barks during the distraction game. How do I stop this?
A: Maintain a comfortable distance from distractions. If lunging occurs, quickly create distance until the dog calms down. Don’t reward during reactive moments. Once calm, restart the game at a greater distance.
Q: My dog is fine at a distance but lunges when we get closer to distractions.
A: Incrementally decrease the distance to the distraction, moving just one step closer at a time. Ensure the dog can disengage at each new distance before moving closer.

We took our cavapoo puppy Hugo along for some one to one training with Konner and we were over the moon with the results. Hugo came on leaps and bounds and Konner helped us to realise what a smart little dog he was.My husband and I both really enjoyed our training sessions and we learnt such a lot about Hugo and how to get the best out of him. The support given in between sessions was also brilliant and really enabled us to make the most of our one to one sessions.I cannot recommend Konner enough - very knowledgeable and completely intuitive with Hugo. We initially signed up for a board and stay, but switched to a day train when it became clear that our nervous German Shepherds would do better with it. This worked out far better in the end. Our puppies are very reactive, and although they do well in many areas, they bark at every dog they see and throw in the occasional person just to keep us on our toes. Once we got them back, we noticed a marked improvement, and although we still have work, Milan has given us the tools to do this within the 30-day WhatsApp meetings. I went from being so worried that I would never be able to get my pup to improve to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks again, Milan.

Milan has been great.Have been trouble with my 4 year old frenchie’s anxiety due to other dogs and ‘weird’ things out and about.We started doing the online training help for 30 days - daily.He then happened to come to London a few months later and we did an hour session face to face with some check ins - still in the process of.The 121 session was incredible. Honestly so so amazing and if Milan lived closer I would do more 121s. He made it look so easy 🫣😫!My Frenchie is getting better but probably a bit of a while until she isn’t bothered by things anymore.Milan is always good at reassuring me when I feel stressed, he is always direct but polite and makes me feel that there’s hope when I am ready to give up.Thanks Milan. Milan and Konner provided one month of training and support for our one year old boxer dog, Harley. Over this time we had daily support on WhatsApp with Milan and Konner sending personalised training videos and voice messages and also answering any questions. I would send videos and then receive tips back on how to further improve things and what to keep working on. There were also three one to one sessions which were really helpful. Konner took the lead with Harley’s training and led the sessions. He was very knowledgable and provided continual support to through WhatsApp. Overall Harley has definitely improved. We focused on loose lead walking and getting Harley to improve his wait/stay commands. He is definitely more engaged now. The training techniques need a lot of effort, practice and consistency every day, but they do work and there is good support to help along the way. Thanks for all the help!

Absolute legends. From the first call with Milan, to the final training session (and beyond) with Konner, these guys have been exceptional. The four week intensive course with daily WhatsApp support has been great, not only did the guys give us daily feedback, it forced us to be on our game and work with our dog to implement the training every single day.Konner was super flexible, working around our busy work schedules (and the unpredictability of the weather) and the progress we saw in the first two weeks was more than we saw in the previous 12 months. We still have more work to do, but with the tips that the guys provided we are confident we can get her there.We'll be back again in the future for more help I'm sure. Can't recommend these guys and there positive reinforcement training enough.

Milan has been INSTRUMENTAL to our success with Hazel (our rescue greyhound). The usual training tips etc just weren’t really working for us, so we reached out for more expert help. Milan got us dialling in the exact drill and patterns we needed to start helping Hazel acclimate to life outside the track.We are still working with him as Hazel is a particularly sensitive make and model lol. But we’ve so far achieved:Calm and attentive lead walkingWait, Stay, and returnSound desensitisation (still working but hugely improved)Calm, happy and settled in general.We are now working on dog meeting and (her nemesis) children running about and playing.Plus I also wanted to say that as Hazel has been with us her behaviour has fluctuated during her first 5 months (totally normal for a rescue) as she’s adjusted, and Milan has been the perfect support during this. Reassuring us and adjusting his teachings to suit where Hazel (and ourselves!) have been at.In closing, I would highly recommend Milan for your dog and situation. For me there’s no more proof than watching how well Hazel behaves with him (she’s dead nervous normally). He’s kind, balanced and knows what to do and when to do it.Cheers Milan.

This is the second time I’ve had 1-2-1 sessions with Milan, there was very specific training technics I was looking for, and Milan again, came up trumps. Bear and me both gained so much out of our training sessions, but I do love sending videos and getting the feed back between sessions too. Milan has an incredible amount of knowledge and clearly understands the psychology of dogs better than anybody else we have spoken to. His approach is direct and clear, which made training Reggie our anxious miniature Dachshund simple, and made him much more confident and relaxed. We also felt that Milan really took the time to understand Reggie, not just reacting to his behaviour in the moment, but taking the time to understand his personality and desires - and communicating that to us clearly and consistently.

We are the very happy owners of Crispin. As lovely as Crispin is, he is reactive and prone to barking at other dogs and can strain on the lead to get them. Not knowing anything about Crispin’s background, his behaviour left us struggling with how to best manage him.Enter Milan and Konner. Thanks to them and their knowledge and support, we’ve already seen improvements in Crispin and now have a much better understanding of him, but more than that, we feel we’ve been trained as well! After our eye-opening in-person sessions, we know what Crispin is capable of. There’s light at the end of the tunnel! Now, it’s a case of managing Crispin’s environment and following the techniques Milan and Konner have shared to change Crispin’s behaviour for the better. Thank you guys!

We've recently completed the 30 day training programme with Milan and it's an understatement to say it's been a game-changer for us and our dog, Max. We've had Max for 4 years now, rescued from Greece via a fab charity (Healing Paws), and while he's very happy, settled, and loving with us and close family, he's always been very nervous when out in public with lots of people, around strangers, and just in unfamiliar situations. We went to Milan hoping to make Max more comfortable on walks, less reactive to unfamiliar places/people, and less of a guard dog in the house (very reactive to people coming in, the doorbell, etc). Milan's guidance has helped us achieve exactly that. In our first call, we broke down the problems, and Milan advised techniques we should do to make Max more comfortable and get the engagement with him that we were missing on walks. We sent daily updates via WhatsApp, which Milan always responded to, and amended our approach as needed as per his guidance. The three face to face sessions were extremely helpful too - Milan explained Max's behaviour, what we were doing right/wrong, and always had ways of breaking down exercises further for Max to build up to the longer-term goal. We couldn't recommend Milan and Konner at Smart Dogs highly enough - it's been the best thing we've done for Max, we can see huge progress, 100% a worthwhile investment. Before we spoke to Milan, we were concerened Max had too many issues that were the result of being a rescue dog and that there was just no way around them. We were completely wrong - Milan's understanding of dogs, ability to explain the reason beind behaviours and how to approach them is second to none. If you're thinking about giving this a go, go for it!

Throughout our training journey, Milan has been excellent at breaking down training concepts and getting us to fully understand how and why we are training different behaviours. He has been incredibly patient and knows the solution to every issue we have come across with our dog Bonnie - you're a dog genius! Milan genuinely cares about dogs and has continued to check in with Bonnie even after we have finished our training sessions with him. We reached out to Milan after struggling with our Daschund after the arrival of our daughter - he was excellent on the initial call and made us very confident in signing up for the training programme.The WhatsApp messaging can’t be underestimated - I sent videos every morning and evening and Milan never missed responding each day over the 4 weeks with feedback on our training.The 1-2-1 sessions were then perfect in tweaking what I had tried to implement and take the training to the next level.Our Daschund is now able to sit calmly in the same room every day with our daughter and able to walk without pulling on the leash. Milan & Konner have been an absolute dream to work with over the past 30 days! Both of have them have great knowledge and understanding of canine behaviour & how to use positive methods to get the results you want. The improvement in Axel’s loose lead walking & general behaviour in 30 days has been huge! We had our 1-2-1 sessions with Konner, who was very reassuring when I felt a bit uneasy about getting closer to Milo & Koda as Axel used to struggle with reactivity, but taking it slow and steady, and with a bit of push for myself, Axel was disengaging and ignoring Milo.The WhatsApp support has been great, Milan teaches you on how to tweak your behaviour to get the best results, and if something isn’t working, he will give you a different solution to the problem!

Blown away by the changes in our dog in just 4 weeks. She has gone from being extremely nervous - reacting to dogs and humans by rushing up to them and barking - to remaining calm and barely giving them a glance.You can see she has so much more confidence now and it’s made her more willing to come to us to be petted, have cuddles and engage in play.As a rescue and over 4 years old we thought it would be too late to chance that embedded behaviour but the support (I needed as much training as she did!) was never ending, and I wasn’t made to feel like a bad owner which I was really grateful for.Can’t recommend this trainer highly enough.

Came to see Milan after our dog Chester bit a family member. Chester is 7 so this behaviour was out of the blue and alien to us. I have 2 small children so their safety was paramount to us, and we were faced with the reality that we may have to rehome Chester for the safety of our family. I was absolutely devastated but after speaking with Milan and numerous vet appointments we decided to carry out training with Milan as a last ditch attempt before we considered options to rehome. After the first face to face session with Milan, we finally felt like we were able to communicate with Chester on a different level. Milan contacted us every day with recommendations of what to do differently based on training videos we had sent him and what to do next and check to see how things were going. We had constant support. Everyone 1:1 we made huge progress and learnt more about chesters behaviour and how to better manage his environment. We had our final 1:1 with Milan in our home as this is where we found his behaviour at its worst. Milan gave us instruction and within minutes Chester was doing what we wanted him to do without being told. Milan was preempting his behaviour before we even started I didn't understand how he knew. But Milan has such vast experience he's seen this behaviour in hundreds of dogs so I knew we were in safe hands and felt confident that we were given the right tools and techniques to be able to manage Chester moving forward given the right environment. We've finished our training with Milan and although not perfect we've seen a huge difference in Chester. We still have work to put in but Milan had given us everything we need to make those changes. He doesn't Bark as much so the neighbours are happier, we're controlling his environment so he doesn't get up to mischief and he's listening to what we want him to do. We're more confident having visitors over without the fear of him humping and getting excited. Again still room for improvement but we've got the right techniques in place to manage Chester in difficult situations. We can't thank Milan enough for finally being able to enjoy Chester and allow us to keep him in our family without fear of him biting. Cannot recommend Milan enough if you're looking for a dog trainer that genuinely just communicates with the dog rather than using fear and punishment to manipulate a situation than Milan is the trainer you need to speak to.

I worked with Milan to build my (very nervous) rescue chihuahua’s confidence in and out of the house, improve his engagement during walks, and teach him commands. Milan is enthusiastic, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. His practice is grounded in consistency and positive reinforcement but he is able to recognise and adapt to different dogs’ needs. Throughout our 30 day course (online and in-person), he offered clear steps and detailed feedback, both of which have been invaluable. I’m thrilled with the progress we’ve made with my dog, but even better is that I now have the tools to continue training him. I’d definitely use Milan’s services again and can highly recommend them to anyone else.

We took our 6 month old Cockerpoo to the puppy class with Milan and we’re impressed by his enthusiasm and instant connection to the puppies on the course. We then continued with the 4 week online course, which included a visit to our house to work on the areas of behaviour which we needed supported with at home. We sent videos of using the techniques which Milan suggested and he was always quick to respond with both positive comments as appropriate and reminders of the correct order of the techniques and being consistent in letting our dog know what we expected him to do - he does train owners. At the end of the 4 weeks he returned and gave us feedback and also gave us pointers for a couple of new areas which we needed help with. Milan is dedicated to helping dogs and owners have the best relationship and promote safe and secure dogs. Our puppy is totally smitten with him! I highly recommend Milan .

We’re thrilled with our sessions so far! Our lab puppy is super smart, but we were having a tough time with his loose lead walking, recall, and being overly friendly towards other dogs and people. We contacted Milan for help with our highly reactive French Bulldog. We've made amazing progress in 30 days through a combination of in-person training, zoom calls and daily WhatsApp updates. Milan was really knowledgeable and taught some great positive reinforcement techniques to improve Henry's behaviour. By the end of the program, Henry was much calmer and responsive to commands and we feel much more confident when walking him. Can’t recommend Milan enough. We went for help with multiple areas we wanted to address with our 18 month old dog including reactivity, barking, unable to settle, pulling on the lead, recall. Milan is extremely knowledgeable and I've seen great improvement in my Dog in just 30 days. My cocker spaniel has gone from barking at everyone to looking at me which is just amazing in such a short space of time. Milan doesn't train your dog he trains you! It's been a lot of work but Milan has kept me right in what to do and I've seen huge huge improvement in my dog.

I have completed 4 weeks of puppy training with Milan, he has really helped me understand my deaf pup and connect with him none verbally. I would highly recommend Milan and look forward to doing future training with him.

My husband and I are so pleased we found Milan, he is an absolutely brilliant dog trainer. We rescued our Belgian Malinois, Ivy, when she was 8 months old and even though we’d had dogs all our lives we knew we needed help with Ivy. We contacted Milan and from the start knew he was the one to help us. We decided on the 30 day training programme which includes 3 hours of 1-1 sessions and WhatsApp advice everyday. Milan would teach us what to do for each issue we had, we would video what we did and then he would tell us if it was great or needed more practice. He is extremely patient and nothing is too much trouble and his love for dogs shines through. He has made a massive difference to our lives with Ivy and we thoroughly recommend him to anyone needing a dog trainer

I reached out for help on leash training from Milan. Milan not only helped 1to1 on leash training and recall but gave us advice on the dog behaviour before a walk which was impacting upon the actual walk. Starting from the dog walker walking down the path and entering the house and how the dog would react to this.

We are currently receiving training from Milan for our cocker spaniel Willow around being reactive to visitors at home as well as lead walking. We are due to have a baby and Willow would react to people walking past the house and worse when people entered the home. Milan is super knowledgeable and has great attention to detail, he responds daily and requests specific videos in which he will then feedback in detail. We are not even finished training yet and we have managed to get Willow to remain neutral to visitors and her lead walking is improving daily. Beyond impressed with the training and support from Milan and looking forward to even further improvements with Willow!

Milan helped us with training our Jack Russell who we adopted with some personality quirks.Milan is so knowledgable about dog behaviour and training, he creates personalised plans based on how the dog is behaving and you can see that he really loves what he does.He is very understanding and checks in regularly to see how we are getting on and offers any further support when needed.We really enjoyed our 4 week course with Milan and would not hesitate to recommend Smart Dogs Training to anyone looking to train their dog.

Went to Smart Dog Training with a rescue malinois after working with 2 other trainers.Unlike other trainers Milan has a variety of approaches to training. He asks for daily updates with videos and gives feedback.He has helped me and my wofe as well as the dog

We requested the help of Milan with a rescue dog that we had for about a year and a half, although Dougie is a lovely dog but rejected by 6 homes before us he has a number of issues. The main one is that he can be unpredictable and has bitten previous owners and bitten while we have had him. We have an other dog and Milan has really educated us that it is our job to manage Dougie at all time so no one is ever put at risk of him biting. Milan’s help, advice and techniques have increased our knowledge in both how to train and manage Dougie. The daily support and quick response to each message is pretty much like having Milan on hand all day for advice and support. For anyone considering this service will not be disappointed!! We intend to have a few months doing everything we have been taught and booking in again in a few months.

Milan gave my dog the best start in life possible, he's a tremendous trainer and i really can't recommend him enough.
